Come and explore how the season of midlife, also known as your Second Spring, is one of personal growth and transformation.

REGISTER ME NOW!!

Why retreat in Midlife?

Mid-life can arrive all of a sudden, and with it an opportunity to pause. You may reflect on how your body has changed. You may recognise one or two symptoms of mid-life, the infamous hot flushes and weight gain.

There is also aching joints, anxiety, difficulty sleeping, brittle nails, brain fog, tingling in your hands, fatigue, depression, and changes to your taste buds. In fact, women can experience up to 50 different symptoms during midlife.

Why Second Spring?

In the ancient science of Taoism and Traditional Chinese Medicine, a woman’s mid-life is known as the ‘Second Spring’. The Second Spring represents a time of renewed energy and opportunities as there is a shift away from fertility and reproduction. The sacred practices of Yang Shen (self-care and nourishing life) are even more important during this time of mid-life throughout perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause.

You wake at Wyablena…

…to the gentle warmth of sunlight streaming in through the window and the exotic melody of birdsong floating in the air. Stretching, you feel the promise of the day ahead, your body already tingling with the anticipation of connection and movement.

Stepping outside, the cool morning air brushes your skin as you join the group. The earth feels solid beneath your feet as you begin the flowing movements of qigong. Each inhale brings fresh energy; each exhale releases tension. The rhythm of the practice draws you into harmony with the world around you—the rustle of leaves, the whisper of the breeze, the quiet pulse of life.

In this moment, time feels suspended. The simplicity of being here, of moving and breathing in sync with the earth and yourself, is everything. You feel alive, balanced, and fully present. All while being surrounded by sacred land, breathtaking views and soaking up every precious moment in hinterland paradise.

  • B. App Sc. (Clinical), B. App. Sc (Chiropractic)

YOGA + QI GONG TEACHER, AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR, CHIROPRACTOR

Freya has been practising various forms of mindfulness and meditation for many years. Her first experiences were as a child with a regular practice of yoga, dance, and tai chi.

When Freya began practising as a Chiropractor in 1997 she also started teaching mindfulness of breath techniques to patients, to help them with sleep and stress reduction.

In 2013 due to a debilitating health challenge, Freya had to suddenly stop working as a Chiropractor. She increased her dedication to her daily formal meditation practice and also found qigong and Yin Yoga. She found these ancient practices so valuable and healing that she went on to train as a meditation, yoga & qigong teacher, to be able to share their benefits with others.

Freya is the award-winning author of  -WONDER FULL WOMEN. ATTUNE & BLOOM. EAT, MOVE & MEDITATE WITH THE SEASONS.

Freya is a registered mindfulness & meditation teacher with Meditation Association of Australia, a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance International, a registered Chiropractor with AHPRA and a certified YOQI® (Yoga & Qigong) instructor. She continues to learn, regularly train with others, and attend retreats alongside her daily practice for professional and personal growth.

  • REGISTERED NURSE, HOLISTIC COACH, HYPNO THERAPIST, MENOPAUSE SPECIALIST

As a mum of two and in her 50s, Louise has chosen to integrate her extensive clinical expertise with natural solutions, and mindset tools, providing holistic pathways for women to take charge of their wellness.

Louise’s own experience through menopause, deepened her commitment to supporting women in embracing their journey with confidence, clarity, and vitality.

With 30 years of experience as a Registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse Specialist, Louise is now a Holistic Wellness Facilitator who specialises in guiding high-performing women to navigate the transformative journey of perimenopause and menopause with confidence and grace.

Louise has had the privilege of practicing across the globe beginning her journey in the Scottish Liver Transplant and General Intensive Care Unit at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary (Scotland), then onto the Neuro/Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit at St Vincent's Private Hospital in Sydney (Australia) to name but two.

Later in her journey, she redirected her career focus to Reproductive and Sexual Health with Family Planning NSW. During Louise’s time at Family Planning NSW, she had the unique opportunity to speak with hundreds of women from culturally diverse backgrounds, about their experiences of peri-menopause and menopause, just as she was stepping into her own menopause journey.

It became very clear that there was a significant lack of support and options for women during this important time of transition which inspired Louise to step away from the clinical setting and establish Live a Luminous Life.

  • AWARD-WINNING CHEF, CATERING BUSINESS OWNER, EDUCATOR

Ronit Robbaz is an award winning chef, cooking teacher and owner of Open Table Catering, Byron Bay. I love to share my passion with others. For me, food is the bridge between cultures, worlds and people. It is about people coming together and sharing their love, their ancestral memories, their passion and love for this earth and its abundant harvest.

Much of her upbringing was in the kitchen around simmering pots and pans, baking trays and delicious aromas. Ronit grew up in a family where the focus was lavish food and joyful feasting. She had no choice but to acquire a keen awareness of food during my childhood years.

Her mother instilled in me both curiosity and respect for rituals, traditions cultural diversity, and the use of local seasonal produce.
Her passion for food as celebration, entertainment and bringing people together is the result of her Moroccan Israeli heritage and her love of travelling around the globe for many years gaining a wealth of experience in Mediterranean, Moorish, Middle Eastern, North African, Indian Ayurvedic and whole food Cuisine.

  • No. The Song Circle is an invitation to enjoy connection and community through sound and simple chants. Guided expertly by your retreat hosts, this session is designed for you to simply enjoy receiving the sounds or chant along with joyous abandon. The intention of the song circle is to raise vibrational coherence within the systems of the body to support nervous system health and better emotional wellbeing.

  • What is Qigong?
The word “qi” refers to life force energy, while “gong” means developing expertise or skill. Together, qigong can be translated as developing skill and expertise in working with our life force energy. It focuses on energy cultivation and balance.

Qigong originated in China thousands of years ago and is rooted in ancient Taoism. Through the combination of breath, movement, and intention, it promotes health, vitality, and balance within the body. The benefits of practicing qigong include reduced stress and anxiety, improved focus, and enhanced balance and flexibility.

    Experience the YOQI® Method
During your retreat, Freya will lead you through a YOQI® qigong flow each morning at sunrise, immersed in the natural surroundings. Each session will build on the previous flow. These sessions are designed to help you reconnect to your energy, body, mind, and spirit. You are welcome to join one or all of these sessions as part of your retreat experience.

  • Non-sleep deep rest, or NSDR, is an umbrella term for a variety of practices that guide your brain and body into a state of deep relaxation without falling asleep completely.

Yoga nidra (also called yogic sleep) is a more specific practice typically involving a body scan process, guided breathing routines and visualisations whilst lying down.

Meditation is a practice that can foster an emotionally calm and clear state. Focused meditations involve specific attention on your breath, body, or a mental visualization, in contrast to open monitoring (or “mindfulness”) meditation, where the aim is to allow thoughts to come and go without attachment. Hypnosis is more similar to focused meditation than what’s portrayed in movies — hypnosis has shown to be an effective way to self-direct the mind to relaxed and self-aware states.

Breathwork is a compelling illustration of the mind-body connection, where conscious control of the breath (e.g., through physiological sighs) can influence your mental state, reducing feelings of stress and anxiety.

These practices are accessible to beginners, and don’t require a lot of time — even a morning meditation or yoga nidra practice as short as 10 minutes can have positive effects on energy levels and cognitive performance. Embracing these practices can lead to improved sleep, improved cognition and mental health, and overall well-being.

Amy will be sharing NSDR, Yoga Nidra Meditation and as a certified iREST instructor and IAM Yoga Nidra practitioner.

  • HeartMath is a series of evidence based techniques and tools that are specifically designed to promote intelligent energy management, transform stress, strengthen resilience, and improve overall health. Each technique typically emphasises heartfelt breathing in a ten-second cardio-respiratory rhythm, which facilitates RSA, rhythmic pulsation, and with a focus on positive, renewing feelings.

The HeartMath system has produced research evidence for scientific interventions that alter contexts characterized by chaos and stress, promoting health, coherence, and interconnectedness.

HeartMath has been utilised in various environments including public health and hospitals, education institutions, front-line and defence personnel groups and private sector businesses.

The HeartMath approach also integrates ancient and contemporary, indigenous and mainstream, popular and folk, Eastern, Western, and African forms of healing.

Amy is a licensed HeartMath Institute Coach and Organisational Trainer. She will be sharing the science behind HeartMath’s techniques and how to apply these practical techniques in daily life for better mental wellbeing and personal resilience.

  • Yin yoga is a slow, nourishing and healing form of yoga. It involves stretches / poses held for longer periods of time, anywhere from 2 - 20 minutes.

Most poses are held on the floor and props can be used for extra support (if required). This longer length of time held in the pose is where the magic happens - it impacts our connective tissues (rather than our muscles as with more active forms of yoga), involving our deep fascia network, joints, ligaments, tendons and even our bones.

It is the long, gentle pressure that stimulates strengthening of our connective tissues and also helps remove blockages deep in our connective tissues which then allows qi / prana / energy to flow freely.

Our Chi will move to wherever we place our awareness. It is also true that wherever our chi moves it will bring our awareness with it”. - Paul Grilley

By learning to hold poses for longer periods of time, practicing patience, this calms the mind and cultivates an ideal attitude for meditation. This quieter yoga practice can introduce us to balancing our body, heart and mind. In our current Western world we are all often ‘caught up’ in our heads, leading to disconnection from our (true) self and others. Yin yoga and Mindfulness meditation is a wonderful way to help become more grounded, reconnect, heal and relax. It can benefit both our relationship with ourselves and others.

  • Ceremonial grade cacao is known as cacao that is minimally processed, organically grown, and often harvested in small-batches using traditional methods.

Cacao beans are tiny but mighty, ranking as one of the world’s best sources of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals by weight. Enjoying pure organic cacao can help your body defend and repair itself against free radicals and cell damage, and may reduce insulin resistance, blood pressure and the risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease.

Cacao is also good for your mind and soul, releasing natural feel-good chemicals to boost your mood and help you feel a sense of calm, peace, and overall wellness. There’s some science behind why many of us instinctively turn to chocolate when we’re in of need of some grounding and cheering up!

  • Your beautiful self, an open mind and heart along with any item that will support you feel relaxed, comfortable and at ease for the retreat experience.

The main house living room, kitchen and bathroom are accessible to all guests during the retreat.

  • Contrast Therapy involves alternating between hot and cold treatments to enhance recovery, relaxation, and circulation. This practice typically includes moving between a hot environment, like a sauna or hot tub, and a cooler one. For women, the ideal cool temperature is around 15- 16°C (instead of ice-cold water as used by men), which provides a refreshing contrast without causing excess stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system.

The shift between hot and cool temperatures supports the body’s natural healing processes, reducing muscle soreness, improving circulation, and boosting energy levels. It’s also known to help with recovery, reduce inflammation, and improve overall wellness.

Freya will be offering Contrast Therapy for those who would like to participate.

  • Byron Bay Region has a humid subtropical climate with long, warm and occasionally wet summers and short, mild winters. Spring in Byron occurs before the busy tourist period and is also the peak season for whale watching.

October will find us enjoying sunny and warm spring weather with low rainfall. You can expect average highs of 24 degrees celsius during the day and average lows of 13 degrees celsius at night. We recommend you bring a jumper and light rain jacket for those cool nights and brisk mornings. Don’t forget your swimmers costume for the magnesium pool or spring fed dam as the water temperatures will be mild enough for swimming without a wet suit.

Thank you thank you thank you for all everyone shared and contributed. I feel absolutely seen and held and cared for - and I truly hope you do too ✨✨✨

And a special note to Fruff and Boo for facilitating it all. From the fairytale accommodation, to the mouthwatering food, to the mind expanding activities, to the wishing post, the oms, to the feet-up, to the visioning, to dancing in the moonlight, to the guasha, to the figs (omg the figs!!!), the laughs and the tears…. It was so far beyond any expectations I might have had.

Freya you honestly have a gift for helping to bring others to their wholeness. I’m so grateful to you and a bow down to the universe for bringing us together. Being your friend is a treasure to behold. From the bottom of my heart, thank you

“You look different...”

Thank you so much Amy…for an amazing long weekend retreat. When I went back to work on Tuesday people looked and me and said, "You look different."

I am sure it was the tension on my face that had disappeared from the pampering I received. I loved everything about the retreat. The venue was stunning and located an easy hour's drive from home (in the northern suburbs). The studio was perfect (warm with views) and the variety of classes were at sensible times of the day. The fresh organic veg food prepared…was delicious…you knew you were in for an epicurean treat at every meal.

The Ayurvedic facial, the hot stone massage, the open fires, the beautiful views from the house, strolling in the garden, taking an easy walk to the shops and blending essential oils make it sound like we were busy, but there was time for a chat, or a nap, to read a book or magazine, or just daydream.

I know I will need to book in early next time, because you can't keep something this good a secret for long.

— Julie W.
